Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego Dermatology Department

The Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology of Rady Children’s Specialists of San Diego cares for children from birth through young adulthood with a wide range of dermatological conditions, including eczema, acne, psoriasis and other inflammatory skin disorders, severe and deforming birthmarks, infections, disfiguring scars, genetic disorders, moles and skin cancer.

Through providing the latest medical and surgical therapies, using state-of-the-art technology, and conducting research on the most promising therapies, we strive to help our young patients put their best face forward.

Division Achievements

  • One of the largest Divisions in the country, seeing patients from San Diego to Irvine, Temecula, and Riverside counties, and from all over the world.
  • State of the art procedural dermatology care, including lasers, topical and general anesthesia procedures, and phototherapy.
  • Conducts more clinical trials than any pediatric dermatology program in the country.
  • Trains the best and brightest dermatology specialists through our fellowship programs.

Program Highlights

  • Established the first comprehensive Eczema and Inflammatory Skin Disease Center in the nation for treating eczema, psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions, with a specialty clinic for patients with severe disease.
  • Specialized evaluation and testing for contact allergy, allowing assessment of allergies that may impact eczema and intermittent and chronic rashes.
  • Instrumental in developing the first detailed, evidence-based clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric acne, and for the screening for important comorbid conditions in children with psoriasis.
  • Launched and expanded the Vascular Lesion and Birthmark Center to treat deforming skin lesions, including hemangiomas, using advanced technology and cutting-edge treatments.
  • Named a Sturge-Weber Foundation Center of Excellence for port-wine stains and complicated vascular disorders
  • First dedicated program for laser and multimodal treatment of pediatric scars called the STAR (Scar Treatment and Rehabilitation) Program.
  • Received the American Academy of Dermatology Gold Triangle Award for excellence in public health education.
